I couldn’t let the school year end without a message acknowledging the outstanding success the ECO Studies program was for our daughter. Her outlook for second semester was quite bleak, anticipating months of classroom work and then sitting at home afterwards to complete assignments, but after switching into your curriculum she turned a complete 180 degrees. She finished refreshed for the important final year. The course material was engrossing, relevant, and the team work actually “worked”. I feel that the students felt respected and appreciated, making them try harder, be more committed, and even validating the course material. Our daughter now has knowledge to help the environment, and a great desire to do so. In fact, she was so excited she would frequently “teach” us her new information, which hasn’t happened since Grade 5!

This course was really interesting; I have learned a lot of unusual material and skills. My favorite part has been the Earth and Space Science. I was originally looking at taking that course online in Gr 12, but taking it in ECO Studies was much better. Earth and Space Science is so interesting because it teaches you things that you can see every day and allows you to understand the world around you that much better.
The hands on parts of the program are what I am enjoying the most, the chance to get out and study/see different things first hand and experience them is far better than anything you can learn in a classroom.
Adventure trip planning was awesome because I feel prepared enough to continue camping like this on my own time.
I learned to not be afraid to speak my mind which I think will definitely be helpful in the future.
This class has opened my eyes to new things around me that I normally never looked at before.
The leadership skills I learned as part of ECO Studies will be valuable and relevant in everyday life. I’m less shy than when I started.
I found one of the main workload differences between this and normal classes was the amount of large projects. I think it gave the courses more substance, because the knowledge became more applicable than doing small write-ups or homework questions. The projects incorporated leadership and teamwork, while working towards a goal that didn’t seem pointless.
Overall ECO Studies just had a more real-life purpose mentality that made it more applicable to a lifestyle out of the classroom. LOVED IT!
My expectations were completely met and it has been the best semester of my life.
I would 100% recommend ECO Studies to all my friends. Even if they have no interest in the environment or physical activity, it is a great way to learn and get introduced to environmental issues and make it a part of your daily life.
ECO Studies has been a really positive experience. I’ve always wanted to make the most out of my high school experience, and this was a great way to do it!
Learning with a group of people that share common interests I find much more rewarding than sitting in a classroom full of people that don’t really want to be there.
